Lum Eisenman

Lum Eisenman, a retired research scientist & physicist, has had a life long interest in wine grape growing and winemaking. His first experience came as a teenager while working in the vineyards and wineries of the Cucamonga Valley, once the country’s leading grape growing region. Lum sought a formal education in enology and viticulture starting in the early 1980’s, attending many classes and workshops offered by UC Davis. He has been an active home winemaker for many years and founded the San Diego Amateur Winemaking Society in 1983. He has taught a variety of courses and workshops at MiraCosta College ranging from vineyard design and installation to winemaking and wine judging. He is the author of The Home Winemakers Manual, available on the Internet since 1999.

Today, Lum continues to lead workshops and seminars for The San Diego Amateur Winemaking Society, encouraging winemaking at all experience levels. He is also one of the winemakers at Belle Marie Winery where he does the lab testing, fermentation setups and pre bottling adjustments. His tireless energy for promoting all aspects of education in winemaking is unmatched in Southern California.

Pete Anderson

Pete Anderson’s involvement with winemaking began in 1997 when he decided to plant grape vines on land next to his home. He took classes in viticulture and enology at U.C. Davis and also locally at MiraCosta College. Anderson is now an Associate Faculty member at MiraCosta College and teaches Vineyard Development and Management in their Horticulture Department. His specialty is vite itaIiane, and for the past 10 years he’s been involved on an Italian Vine Project with Camillo Magoni, winemaker and international marketing person for L.A. Cetto Winery in Baja California. They are growing about 40 Italian varieties and making wine from these grapes in Carlsbad. In addition, he’s the Vice President for Winegrowing at Witch Creek Winery in Carlsbad.
