2023 RVVA Wine Competition

Ramona Valley Vineyard Association’s annual wine competition is up and ready to accept your wine entries! 

From the RVVA home page, click on upcoming events and select “2023 RVVA Wine Competition – or go there directly by clicking the link below. 

This competition is focused solely on wines made from grapes grown in San Diego County. All winemakers (professional and amateur) are invited to enter this annual competition, featuring the Lum Eisenman best in show trophy. Entry fee will be $45.00 per wine entered. Each entry will require the submission of two bottles with a maximum of four entries per winery/winemaker. 

The Key Dates:

May 13/14 & May 20/21, 2023: Delivery of Entry Wines – Rancho San Martin and Ramona Ranch Winery are the drop-off locations for your wines. (Contact drop-off location to arrange for other delivery dates.)

 -If neither location and/or dates will work for you, please contact us and we can work out alternative options for you.

May 22, 2023: Deadline for entries and delivery of entered wines

June 1, 2023:  Wine Judging 

June 4, 2023: Deadline for Banquet Reservations
June 11, 2023: Awards Banquet 12:00-3:00 pm

 The awards banquet will be held at the beautiful Lavender and Olive in Ramona. The competition wines will be available for sampling alongside a catered lunch. The awards banquet will run from 12:00-3:00 pm with awards being presented around 1:00 pm. 

Tickets are available for purchase today through the RVVA website, making it easy to enter your wines and purchase your tickets at the same time.  

San Diego Amateur Winemaking Society Restart Meeting Saturday April 1st at 1 pm

It’s time for budbreak, spring, renewal, and re-starting San Diego Amateur Winemaking Society (SDAWS)! Please join us for a re-organizational meeting on Saturday April 1st (no joke!) at the former Curds and Wine warehouse, 7194 Clairemont Mesa Blvd 92111, at 1 pm. We will discuss goals, organization, and leadership for SDAWS and hopefully bring back this great group to benefit all San Diego area winemakers and wine lovers.

September 2018 Meeting

There will be a SDAWS Meeting on 9/29/2018 at 2 PM at the house of John and Lorraine Estey, 15434 Paseo Penasco, Escondido, CA 92025.

Has it been a strange year for growing grapes for you?

Have your grapes ripened evenly or are they turning to raisins in the sun while others still remain green?

Have you learned new tricks for netting or bird repellent that you’d like to share with fellow vineyard owners?

Come to the home of John and Lorraine Estey on September 29th and share your stories with fellow SDAWS winemakers.

June Meeting – 6/9/18 at 2 pm

Bring a list of your grapevine growing questions to the next SDAWS meeting 2 PM, Saturday June 9th at 1435 Logan Court, Escondido, CA 92027.

There will be a guest speaker to answer your questions on vineyard management and what can go wrong in growing your own wine grapes.

Bring a bottle of your wine to share, and one for the raffle, along with your own glasses, a chair, and cheese and crackers to share with the group.

November Meeting

Don’t forget about our November meeting!

It will be on November 18th at 13909 Indian Canyon Ln in Poway.

We’ll start at around 2pm and end at 5pm or so.

Bring some of your wine to share.

There will be a guest speaker so prepare to be intrigued.

There will be a SDAWS meeting on 8/5 noon to 2 at Ramona Ranch Winery. There will be a group email sent out with more information. Hope everybody can make it.

SDAWS June Meeting at Domaine Artefact Vineyard and Winery

Hello All,

Just an update on upcoming meeting on 6/17/17  from Noon to 2pm. Domaine Artefact   15404 Highland Valley Rd   Escondido, CA

This will be our first meeting in a long time, so we are asking to hold off on bringing wine. Mark and Lynn La Chapelle have so kindly offered to host our meeting, there will be wine available at this event from Domaine Artefact.  You can bring cheese, crackers….  Mark will also be the guest speaker there.  We are hoping to update the email list and add as many new members as possible . Please let everybody know that is interested about the meeting. Hope to see everybody there.
