Ramona Valley Vineyard Association’s annual wine competition is up and ready to accept your wine entries!
From the RVVA home page, click on upcoming events and select “2023 RVVA Wine Competition – or go there directly by clicking the link below.
This competition is focused solely on wines made from grapes grown in San Diego County. All winemakers (professional and amateur) are invited to enter this annual competition, featuring the Lum Eisenman best in show trophy. Entry fee will be $45.00 per wine entered. Each entry will require the submission of two bottles with a maximum of four entries per winery/winemaker.
The Key Dates:
May 13/14 & May 20/21, 2023: Delivery of Entry Wines – Rancho San Martin and Ramona Ranch Winery are the drop-off locations for your wines. (Contact drop-off location to arrange for other delivery dates.)

May 22, 2023: Deadline for entries and delivery of entered wines
June 1, 2023: Wine Judging
June 4, 2023: Deadline for Banquet Reservations June 11, 2023: Awards Banquet 12:00-3:00 pm
The awards banquet will be held at the beautiful Lavender and Olive in Ramona. The competition wines will be available for sampling alongside a catered lunch. The awards banquet will run from 12:00-3:00 pm with awards being presented around 1:00 pm.
Tickets are available for purchase today through the RVVA website, making it easy to enter your wines and purchase your tickets at the same time.
47th Annual OC Fair Home Wine Competition hosted by the Orange County Wine Society (OCWS) is open for entries through May 26, 2023. Judging will take place June 10, 2023 and Home Winemakers will be notified June 19, 2023. More information is online at https://www.homewinecompetition.com/
California State Fair Home Wine Competition is now open for entries! Entries can be submitted through April 25, 2023. It’s time for budbreak, spring, renewal, and re-starting San Diego Amateur Winemaking Society (SDAWS)! Please join us for a re-organizational meeting on Saturday April 1st (no joke!) at the former Curds and Wine warehouse, 7194 Clairemont Mesa Blvd 92111, at 1 pm. We will discuss goals, organization, and leadership for SDAWS and hopefully bring back this great group to benefit all San Diego area winemakers and wine lovers.

Curds and Wine will be hosting free home winemakers’ seminars every month from February through June on the third Saturday at 1 pm. Seminars are given by Lum Eisenman, a winemaking guru that we are lucky to have in the San Diego area. Lum will share his expertise on various winemaking techniques and issues.

Please join us for the November meeting hosted by Keefe & Elane Baker at their new vineyard property in Ramona. Bring your crock pot full of chili (not mandatory) and sides, corn bread, etc. for the annual chili cook-off. We will discuss the 2015 harvest and the different steps in the fermentation process.
Also, we will be taking nominations for officers for the SDAWS elections to be held at the January meeting.
